CBQD

Funding: BMBF, 09/2023-08/2026

Background: Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF within the program “High-performance components and optimized materials for quantum communication”. Total volume: 5,24 Mio. €, of which 100% are funded by the BMBF.

Content: The goal of the project “Chip-based Quantum Random Device” (CBQD) is to research and develop a compact, monolithic, fully-integrated QRNG chip. In doing so, the consortium aims to achieve very high random number generation rates and certification of the QRNG upon project completion. Modern silicon photonics technologies including fully integrated laser source, passive waveguide structures, photodiodes and integrated analog and digital signal processing will be used to implement the QRNG chip. The QRNG solution will subsequently be extensively tested in real QKD applications.

Project partners: Fraunhofer-Institut für Photonische Mikrosysteme IPMS (Consortium Leader), Leibniz Universität Hannover, Leibniz-Institut für innovative Mikroelektronik IHP, Fraunhofer-Institut für Angewandte Optik und Feinmechanik IOF, Adva Network Security GmbH (associated).

Funded Members: Evangelos Gkoumas.
